50m Focal Distance and Various Focal Lengths
Drone filming with the DJI Inspire 3 and X9 Air cameras is an amazing experience and if done properly the results are amazing. Aerialworx have been flying the DJI Inspire 2 with the X7 camera for almost 7 years now and we’re really looking forward to a future with the Inspire 3 and X9 Air camera.
Drone pilot Stefanie Williams from Aerialworx has been flying for film and television productions for over 12 years for projects such as Peaky Blinders, Happy Valley, Strictly Come Dancing, Hunted, Nike, Adidas, Coke and many others. With over 30 years flying experience, she has a passion for flying and has a natural talent for flying a variety of drones with unique cargo at unique locations. Here she talks about different focal lengths at fixed focal distances.
We often get asked what a shot would look like on a 18mm, 24mm, 35mm and 50mm lenses at a fixed focal distance of 50 meters. Why 50 meters? Well, 50 meters is typically the minimum operating distance that we can fly in the UK from third parties, vehicles, vessels and buildings. So, these examples below give you a good idea of what video will look like when filmed at the minimum distances on these various lenses on a full frame sensor filming in 8K RAW.
Don’t forget, when filming in 8K RAW. If your production is in HD, you can push in massively in post to reframe, reposition and stabilise.
