Vanishing
Inspired by the true story of the Flannan Isle mystery and set on a remote Island off the wild and rugged coast in the Western Isles of Scotland. Filmed with our medium lift drone and Sony A7S. This camera was chosen for its excellent low light characteristics. It was ideally suited for filming the lighthouse against the pitch black night sky to emphasise the solitude of the lighthouse in its remote island setting.

A small fishing boat heads towards a remote island with a Lighthouse silhouetted on its rocky headland. A tiny isle no bigger than a football pitch, isolated by twenty miles of unforgiving sea from the rugged Scottish coast. Its purpose to routinely replace the three lighthouse keepers after six weeks alone manning the light.
It nears the dock but none of the men who have endured weeks of isolation are there to greet them. They call out for the men…. nothing. No sound but the cry of the birds and the relentless pounding of the waves. Experienced keepers Thomas (Peter Mullan), James (Gerard Butler) and Donald (Connor Swindels) have vanished. The lamps have all been cleaned and refilled, the table is set for dinner. The only evidence that something is amiss is an upturned chair. Two sets of yellow oilskins are missing, a search of the island was carried out, but the men were never found…
